Gardening nowadays has taken a take off these recent years. Perhaps the older age group in the United States managed to take a peek into the benefits of the “oldest job” in the Bible, that it is: to work the land. 1. Determine the best location for your garden. A paramount consideration is the amount of sun that plants can get. Looking into the portion where the morning sun shines brightest than the afternoon sun may be the best place. In other words, expose your plants to the morning sun by choosing the location that gets the most sun during the morning than during the afternoon. The morning sun is more therapeutic for the gardener too, than the afternoon sun. The morning sun tends to have lesser UV rays than the sharp contrasts during the afternoon. Although, ideally, plants would love some tender caring at sundown, that is when the sun is off to setting mode already.
2. Pick the place with access to hydration. Rule of thumb: plants thrive on two very important elements, sun and water. So, after considering the proximity of the sun, make sure water is just right close. Especially during the initial stages of growing a garden, watering the plants is very crucial. The amount water determines the health of each individual plants in the garden. Though some different plants have different water needs, they all need water nonetheless. So keep the water nearby.
3. Stuff your mind with knowledge about growing a garden. Part of the therapeutic effects of gardening on a retired individual is that gardening encourages them to study and read and thereby increasing central nervous activity which helps in delaying age-related dementia or forgetfulness. Anything that is constantly used does not degenerate, so as long as they keep on using their minds, in essence, they are not bound to lose it. Reading from the latest gardening books or articles about gardening can also keep them abreast about the latest trends and the newest discoveries about the best seeds and best plants to grow at different seasons.
These are basic steps that one may take so that their gardening efforts can really see some great and awesome foliage that will give them satisfaction.
